Gluten Free Beer

This months taste trial is, uncannily enough, a gluten free beer named '113 Against the Grain Bitter Beer' from the Fine Ale Club. Uncanny of course as it echoes the name of our own 113 Foodscan Test! This premium bitter beer is certified 5.1ppm gluten free and can be enjoyed by both coeliacs and vegans. The Fine Ale Club claims it to be a "smooth and creamy ale with good head and full flavour," but as always it's down to the taste testing experts (well, YorkTest staff!) to determine that for themselves.

So just how good does it really taste? To answer that very question 500ml bottles were handed out
amongst YorkTest for an after hours review and here's a collection of people's thoughts before their minds got too clouded to express them clearly....

Steve, Sales - "Light honey taste, easy on the palette and refreshing when cold"
Lez, PR - "I would have never guessed it was gluten free, good, light drink"
Laura, Marketing - "Colour, aroma, taste great, suprisingly nice alongside a chicken Rogan Josh"
Ross, Marketing - "A great beer, amazed it was gluten free, great accompaniment to watching a movie"
James, Sales - "Nice appearance, smooth and fruity to the taste – like Old Speckled Hen but lighter with a better aftertaste"
David - "Gorgeous, perfect with steak and chips"

So all in all the fine ale clubs 113 Against the grain bitter gets a five star review. Everyone  was surprised it was a gluten free beer which matched the taste standard of established brands. Whilst not yet available in supermarkets you can buy it online.
